Art Class Glass went home to a beautiful woman at the 2023 Blakes Sunflower festival.
To be honest, I was happy, but yet a little sad.
When I found this piece of glass I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it which was keep it together without breaking it apart (which is exactly what we glass artist do, break glass!)
So I decided to sepa
Art Class Glass went home to a beautiful woman at the 2023 Blakes Sunflower festival.
To be honest, I was happy, but yet a little sad.
When I found this piece of glass I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it which was keep it together without breaking it apart (which is exactly what we glass artist do, break glass!)
So I decided to separate it and put it back together whole.
Of course; as glass does its own thing, it broke in the opposite direction of 'my' plan.
So what did I do next? I took a breath, held back some tears and stood back...for days.
Until one day I remembered something a friend of mines' wise Aunt had told me once....
"We are all broken. That's how the light gets in.”
~Ernest Hemmingway
So I decided to hand drill holes into this piece to show the emptiness we feel when we are broken, which in turn, lets the light in.
The most joyous part, was the beautiful woman who purchased this glass was a Breast Cancer Survivor still on her journey.
May she always know her light will forever shine in my heart.
